Rithet's Bog

A Description of the Park and Its Features

Rithet’s Bog Conservation Area is a Saanich municipal park and nature sanctuary located near the southwest corner of the Broadmead community in the Royal Oak area, northeast of the Patricia Bay Highway/Quadra overpass.  It covers 42 hectares and has a 2.8 km gravelled walking trail.

One of the park’s outstanding features is its high level of biodiversity.   It contains a wide variety of wetlands including shallow open water, cattail and bulrush marshes, treed and shrub swamps, wet meadows, fens and a bog forest.  It also has upland habitats such as  Garry Oak meadows and Douglas Fir/Arbutus forest.
